I’ve been lost down the rabbit-hole of lingerie sewing again.
Apologies in advance, this is a pretty picture-heavy post.
Truth is, I sew a lot more lingerie than what actually makes it to the blog. I haven’t purchased undies in years. I still buy bras on the regular though, because I still haven’t found the perfect combination of fabric and pattern and wire to get me going.
This bra comes pretty damn close.
If you’ll remember from my last post, I took apart a lace bra that fits well and made a pattern from it. The only non-molded cup bras I wear have a vertical seam, so I figured I’d just bite the bullet instead of making another bra that doesn’t do it for me. I’m petite, and I have a hard time finding bras that fit (you should see what it looks like in the dressing room for me to find one bra) so it makes sense that I would have a hard time finding a pattern that fits too.
Truth be told, this is just a pinch too small in the cup and too large in the band. BUT the shape is glorious and it’s easily the prettiest thing I own. It’s also not like this is, ahem, an everyday bra.
Also, if you were wondering about bra tulle, it gets the job done. Next time around, I want to double-layer it. This works just fine, but I don’t think it’s as supportive as it could be. I had planned on the lace extending to the tops of the cups, but I cut it wrong and it was too narrow to recut full pieces.
The happy accident is that I have a gorgeous partial-cup thing going on with all the support of a demi-cup.
Obviously my dressform and I are not the same cup size. I tried padding her out with a strapless bra so you can see what the cups look like (sorta). They don’t have the draglines when it’s on. Also, the bridge is a little narrow for the channeling I used. I had to overlap it slightly, which is why it looks crooked. I assure you, it doesn’t fit crooked 😉
Oh, also, ladyshorts. Because they’re fabulous. The wider lace also helps smooth things out in the tummy area. I highly recommend it!
